Postgraduate Research

Opportunities for postgraduate research at the iCinema Centre are available in the following domains:

1  Independent research: iCinema has a strong cohort of students undertaking independent postgraduate research in new media and digital cinema. Please note however, resources available for the supervision of independent research at iCinema Centre are strictly limited to general access postgraduate Faculty resources provided by the College of Fine Arts and the School of Computer Science.

1a Experimental research in new media and interactive cinema media

1b Computer science and engineering research in new media and interactive cinema

1c Theoretical research in new media and interactive cinema

Collaborative research on iCinema projects

For details, please contact Dr Dennis Del Favero

1a  Experimental research in new media and interactive cinema media

Projects in new media and interactive cinematic experimentation.
If you are passionate about a certain project and combine experience and knowledge with appropriate academic qualifications in domains relevant to the field, iCinema can provide opportunities for supervision towards a PhD. We are open to new ideas in the investigation of interactive cinematic practice.

1b  Computer science and engineering research in new media and interactive cinema

Numerous opportunities exist for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to undertake research at the iCinema centre in the fields of computer science and engineering.

Software engineering for real-time distributed interactive environments
Automated video, image, sound and speech analysis
Computer graphics
Real-time simulation of physical systems
Hardware design for interactive immersive environments
Sound and speech synthesis
Human, agent and robot interaction
Artificial intelligence, a-life and autonomous agents
Applications

We will only be able to accommodate a limited number of Honours thesis students due to the amount of Computer Science staff at the centre. If you are passionate about a certain project and possess experience and knowledge of the relevant domain, there is a much better chance of you being involved with iCinema this year. We are, of course, always open to new ideas - so if you have already conceived of a project that fits with the objectives of the centre, feel free to approach us.
